Data Sources
ipneighbour.com aggregates data from the following public and authoritative sources. Each result section is labelled with its confidence level.
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol)
Structured registration data from Regional Internet Registries (ARIN, RIPE NCC, APNIC, LACNIC, AFRINIC). Provides authoritative ownership, allocation, and contact data for IP ranges and domains.
DNS (Domain Name System)
Standard DNS resolution for A, AAAA, MX, NS, CNAME, TXT, and SOA records. Also used for reverse DNS (PTR) lookups. Data is as authoritative as the upstream nameservers.
Team Cymru IP-to-ASN Mapping
Provides ASN, announced prefix, country code, and registry data for any IP address via their DNS-based lookup service. Widely regarded as a reliable source for BGP/routing context.
RIPEstat
RIPE NCC's public data API providing network information, ASN overviews, prefix context, and abuse contacts. Enriches the core ASN/RDAP data with additional routing and registry context.
Neighbour / Infrastructure Inference
Provider and infrastructure hints derived from AS names, known ASN mappings, and nameserver patterns. Labelled as "derived" since conclusions are inferred rather than directly stated by the source.
Geolocation
Approximate geographic location from IP geolocation databases. This data is inherently imprecise and should never be treated as exact. Currently sourced via RIPEstat's MaxMind GeoLite integration.
HTTP / TLS Probing
Direct HTTP/HTTPS requests to domains to check reachability, extract page titles, server headers, TLS certificate details, and redirect chains. Results depend on the target's availability at probe time.
Commercial Geolocation Provider
Abstracted provider interface supports plugging in commercial geolocation APIs (MaxMind GeoIP2, IP2Location, etc.) for higher accuracy. Not currently active.
